The Kneeling Leader: A 33-Day Devotional
A Devotional Journey into Humility, Servanthood, and Spirit-Led Influence for Christian Entrepreneurs
Day 5 — The Power of Empty Hands
Scripture (Douay-Rheims):
“But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men.” — Philippians 2:7
Reflection
Jesus, the King of Heaven, chose empty hands over clenched fists. He laid aside privilege, position, and power to serve. In doing so, He revealed the true source of spiritual authority: self-emptying love.
As leaders, we often grip tightly — to strategies, success, influence, and control. We fear that releasing anything might weaken our position. Yet Scripture shows us that God works most powerfully through surrendered vessels.
Empty hands create space for divine filling.
When your identity is rooted in performance, every outcome feels personal. Wins inflate you. Losses crush you. Criticism threatens you. Comparison distracts you. But when your identity is rooted in Christ, you are free. You lead from acceptance, not anxiety.
Letting go is not resignation — it is trust. It is choosing God’s approval over human applause. It is believing that obedience is more valuable than visibility.
In practical leadership, empty hands look like delegating without fear. It means empowering others without jealousy. It means listening without defensiveness. It means adapting without pride. It means saying, “Lord, this company is Yours. This vision is Yours. This future is Yours.”
Teams flourish under leaders who are not competing with them. Creativity expands when leaders are secure. Innovation grows where control loosens its grip.
Jesus did not lose authority by surrendering. He revealed it.
Today, consider: What am I holding too tightly? What fear keeps my hands clenched?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I lay down my need to control outcomes. Empty me of pride and fill me with Your Spirit. Be the CEO of my heart and guide every decision.
