Day 10 of Lent: Growing in Faith

I. Scripture Reading — Hebrews 11:1, 6 (RSV-CE)

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

II. Meditation — The Bridge in the Fog

A traveler once came to a deep canyon covered in thick fog. He knew there was a bridge that crossed to the other side, but he couldn’t see it clearly. He could only see a few steps ahead.

He hesitated.

Was the bridge really there?
Would it hold his weight?
What if he stepped forward and fell?

Finally, trusting the map he carried and the testimony of others who had crossed before him, he took one cautious step. Then another. Slowly, the bridge held firm beneath him.

Faith often feels like walking across a bridge in the fog.

We cannot see the full picture.
We do not know every outcome.
We cannot control the future.

Yet we step forward because we trust the One who leads us.

“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Faith is not blind optimism.
It is confident trust in a faithful God.

III. Reflection — Faith Beyond Feelings

Many people confuse faith with emotion.

When prayer feels powerful — they believe.
When life feels easy — they trust.
When blessings are visible — they praise.

But when difficulties come:

  • Illness

  • Financial stress

  • Family conflict

  • Spiritual dryness

Faith is tested.

True faith does not depend on feelings.
It rests on truth.

Hebrews reminds us:
“Without faith it is impossible to please God.”

Why?

Because faith draws us near to Him.

Faith says:
Even when I don’t see — I trust.
Even when I don’t understand — I surrender.
Even when I am afraid — I believe.

Faith grows when it is exercised.
Just like a muscle, it strengthens under pressure.

Lent is a season to stretch your faith.

IV. Prayer — A Prayer for Deeper Faith

Lord God,

You see what I cannot see.
You know what I do not know.
You guide paths I do not understand.

Yet sometimes I doubt.

I doubt Your timing.
I doubt Your plans.
I doubt Your closeness when life feels heavy.

Forgive my weak faith.

Increase my trust in You.
When fear rises, anchor me.
When confusion clouds my mind, steady me.
When outcomes seem uncertain, reassure me.

Help me walk forward even in fog.
Help me believe in Your promises.
Help me rely not on sight but on Your Word.

Strengthen my faith through prayer.
Strengthen my faith through Scripture.
Strengthen my faith through obedience.

I choose to trust You today —
not because I see everything clearly,
but because You are faithful.

Lord, increase my faith.

Amen.

V. Action for Today

  1. Identify one area where you struggle to trust God.

  2. Write it down and surrender it in prayer.

  3. Read Hebrews 11 and reflect on the faith of the saints.

  4. Take one step of obedience even if it feels uncertain.

Tonight reflect:
Where did I choose faith over fear today?
