Day 13 of Lent: Patience — Waiting with Trust
I. Scripture Reading — Romans 12:12 (RSV-CE)
Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
II. Meditation — The Slow-Growing Tree
A farmer once planted two trees in his field. One was fast-growing. Within a year, it was tall and impressive. The other grew slowly, almost unnoticed.
After several years, a violent storm struck.
The fast-growing tree was uprooted.
Its shallow roots could not hold it.
The slow-growing tree remained standing.
Its roots had grown deep.
Patience works the same way in our spiritual life.
We want quick answers.
Instant healing.
Immediate solutions.
Rapid holiness.
But God often works slowly.
In waiting,
He deepens our faith.
In delay,
He strengthens our trust.
In uncertainty,
He purifies our hearts.
Saint Paul says:
“Be patient in tribulation.”
Not because suffering is easy,
but because God is faithful.
III. Reflection — Learning to Wait with God
Impatience reveals where we struggle to trust.
We become impatient when:
-
Prayers seem unanswered.
-
Problems linger.
-
People don’t change.
-
Plans fail.
-
Healing delays.
We ask:
“Lord, why not now?”
God answers:
“Trust Me.”
Patience is not passive resignation.
It is active hope.
It says:
“I believe God is working even when I cannot see it.”
Jesus waited thirty years before His public ministry.
He waited in suffering.
He waited in silence.
He waited in obedience.
If the Son of God embraced waiting,
so can we.
Patience shapes saints.
It teaches humility.
It builds perseverance.
It strengthens prayer.
Lent is a training ground for patient trust.
IV. Prayer — A Prayer for Patient Endurance
Lord God,
You see the end from the beginning.
You know what is best for me.
You work in perfect timing.
Yet I grow restless.
I want answers now.
I want change now.
I want relief now.
Forgive my impatience.
Teach me to trust Your pace.
Teach me to wait without bitterness.
Teach me to hope without anxiety.
When trials last longer than expected,
give me endurance.
When prayers seem unanswered,
give me faith.
When progress feels slow,
remind me that You are shaping me.
Help me rejoice in hope,
remain patient in suffering,
and persevere in prayer.
Let waiting become worship.
Let delay become devotion.
Let trials become testimony.
I place my time in Your hands.
Amen.
V. Action for Today
-
Identify one situation where you feel impatient.
-
Surrender it to God in prayer.
-
Practice calmness in one frustrating moment.
-
Repeat today: “Lord, I trust Your timing.”
Reflect tonight:
Did I wait with faith today?
