Commitment to Fidelity and Love in Marriage is a Source of Hope, says Bishop Barron

Posted on February 7, 2025 By praynonstopnow

WASHINGTON – “In today’s world, relationships are often viewed as disposable. The commitment to fidelity and love that marriage entails is a source of hope for all generations,” said Bishop Robert Barron. “It is an antidote to the loneliness and discouragement of many young people today and deserves our prioritization as a Church and society.” Each year, National Marriage Week USA and World Marriage Day provide an opportunity for the Catholic Church to focus on and celebrate the vocation to marriage and family life. This year, National Marriage Week USA will be celebrated February 7-14 and World Marriage Day, which is commemorated on the second Sunday of February, will be celebrated on February 9.

The theme for this year’s celebration of National Marriage Week is “Source of Hope, Spring of Renewal. Pursue a Lasting Love!” emphasizing the virtue of hope that permeates the Jubilee Year 2025. “National Marriage Week reminds couples that their commitment is a sign and source of hope for the future and a spring of exemplary love that reverberates through generations,” noted Bishop Barron, who is chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth.

Each day of National Marriage Week, digital content will be shared on the USCCB’s social media channels: Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, resources have been prepared by the USCCB and is available for dioceses to utilize including a flyer/bulletin insert, an at-home marriage retreat, lectio divina for couples, a preaching resource, and social media graphics in English and Spanish. They may be found at: ForYourMarriage.org/celebrate-national-marriage-week.

Other USCCB resources that uphold marriage as a lifelong union of one man and one woman that have been created for the faithful may be accessed through dedicated websites: ForYourMarriage.org, PorTuMatrimonio.org, and LoveMeansMore.org.

Launched in 1996, National Marriage Week is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting healthy marriages and provides couples with resources and ideas for ways they can strengthen their own marriage. Visit MarriageWeek.org for more information.
